Learning to Paint

Last week I completed cutting out pieces for two windows, one is for a letter block type design, and we haven't been told what the next one is for. I suspect, however, that it is going to be a medieval style face, complete with halo.

This week in class we started using glass paints. We are using oil to mix it rather than water, which is what I am used to. It is way nicer though. The paint stays wet longer, and it is easier to get even, opaque lines. My first window is Harry Potter themed, of course. I LOVE Harry Potter. Anyway, it says quidditch, if you can't tell from the picture. I spent the weekend making sketches, so I have plans for a deathly hallows window, as well as a letter block Hermione window.

My hope is that at some point I can start selling windows to make enough money to buy equipment for personal use. It would be amazing to be able to make windows in my own time. The main problem is getting a kiln. I prefer to be able to paint the glass, which isn't doable without a kiln. And kilns are harder to acquire than glass cutters and the like.

My other accomplishments of the week include successfully completing rainbow "scratch-art" nail designs (which looked really cool, but were way too much work) and investigating a job in the local archives, which would be a good place to get experience. Oh, and cleaning out my fish tanks. The amount of weekly work required to take care of two 20-30 gallon tanks is unexpectedly high. I enjoy it though. My two goldfish, who are temporarily residing with me while they get big enough to live in a pond, are so much fun to watch. The larger of the two has beautiful flowing tail fins that he wiggles at me when he is hungry.

This coming week I will hopefully have time to work on some more painting techniques, like crosshatching and such. But now I must log off so that I can complete my history homework, adieu.
